Acorn appointed to second landmark Leeds scheme

Saxton House is an 18-storey development for United Living on the edge of Leeds city centre.

Designed by Brewster Bye Architects, the development will accommodate almost 200 one and two-bedroom apartments

Acorn Aluminium has been appointed to deliver the £2.2m curtain walling and glazing element of the build including design, manufacture and installation.

This will be manufactured in the Kawneer AA100 curtain walling system and the AA720 thermally broken window system.

“We’re delighted to have been appointed by United Living to another landmark project in Leeds city centre”, said Paul Stevens, Managing Director, Acorn Aluminium.

“At 18-storeys, it’s another high-profile gateway site to Leeds City Centre and a stones’ throw from Saxton Lane, which we successfully supported the delivery of for Torsion Group last year.”

Acorn completed the windows, curtain walling and doors, on Torsion Group’s £65million Saxton Lane development in the centre of Leeds last year.

Saxton Lane Development

Aimed at the private rented sector, the two 18 and 22 storey tower blocks will house 349 contemporary apartments and was designed by Den Architecture.

Saxton House builds on Acorn Aluminium’s growing pedigree in the medium-to-high-rise space.

Specifically designed for high-rise residential applications the Kawneer AA720 tilt-and-turn window is features a two-stage opening vent providing natural ventilation under Document F but also full opening for purge ventilation and cleaning.

Offering maximum weather and thermal performance, with u-values as low as 1.0W/m2K, while accommodating sash weights of up to 300kg, the system is also fully suited with Kawneer’s WA100 system.

The leading stick-frame assembly curtain walling system achieves up to Passiv Haus performance with additional weather performance achieved through its sophisticated zone draining system, while accommodating a windload of up to 2400 Pa.

Energy efficient glazing units supplied by Acorn Aluminium to the scheme also feature a heat-soaked inner pane, 16mm argon filled cavity, with 13.5mm Planitherm One, heat strengthened outer pane and high-performance laminate, contributing to an overall u-value of 1.3W/m2K.

“Our systems partnerships put us in a very strong position to deliver highly tailored commercial window and curtain walling solutions”, Paul continued.

“Combined with a growing expertise and proven track record of successful delivery in medium-to-high-rise developments, we can support project delivery from design through to installation, which simplifies project management and supports best value for the end client.”
