Acorn Appointed to landmark Nottingham Office Development

Acorn Aluminium has been awarded the contract for curtain walling on Bildurn’s new office scheme in the centre of Nottingham.

The final phase of the developer’s transformation of Station Street, the new 50,000sq ft flexible office space was designed by architects Franklin Ellis and is being delivered by main contractor Bowmer & Kirkland.

Acorn Aluminium has been appointed to supply the 12,000 sq m silicone glazed curtain walling element of the scheme.

Paul Stevens, Commercial Director, Acorn Aluminium, said: “This is the second project that we’ve picked up as part of the wider redevelopment of Nottingham’s South Side, and we’re very excited to be on board.

“At 12,000 sq m, it’s a substantial curtain walling scheme in a high-profile location and we’re looking forward to working with our partners to deliver what will be a very impressive building.”

Acorn has been appointed on a design, manufacture and installation basis, using the SF52 System from Senior Architectural Systems and a combination silicone/toggle and glazed solution with perimeter clamp capping.

“The advantage of the combined installation silicone/toggle glazing system that we’re using is that it delivers an uninterrupted external sightline in the main sections of the curtain walling, while using conventional capping around the edge”, explained Paul.

“It delivers a very clean almost uninterrupted glass finish but through the use of permitter capping, better weather sealing while also controlling costs.

“We are also installing a special aerofoil capping as part of the design and revolving entrance door.”

Glass specification for the scheme is a 10.8mm laminate 24mm cavity and 8mm heat soaked toughened SKN 154 on the outside achieving a u-value of 1.4W/m2K and G-value of 0.4.

The scheme is scheduled for completion in November 2022, and will be used as a hybrid working hub for 1,000 employees from appliance care specialist D&G.

The contract win comes on the back of Acorn Aluminium’s successful delivery of a 319-room accommodation block for Vita Student on a neighbouring site on the South Side redevelopment,.

Designed by architect Fuse Studios and delivered by main contractor Morgan Sindall, Acorn was appointed to supply casement windows into the 101,375 square foot scheme.

Paul added: “Station Street has seen an incredible transformation in the last couple of years, with a wide range of mixed-use spaces coming online.

“What’s very positive about the new Station Street/Bildurn scheme is that it’s office space, part of a growing return of confidence in UK city centre work-spaces post-lockdowns and covid restrictions.’
